Good Days & Bad Days

Last week on the way home from Asa's weekly hospital visit, be because very nauseous and couldn't keep anything down for 6 hours. It was finally around 1:30am that he was able to start keeping liquids down and could take his scheduled 8pm medicine down. His medicine schedule has been all off since then and has been a little tricker to keep up with. It took us a few days to determine which of his meds were making him nauseous but we hope we now have it under control.

Other than that he's has some really good days with no sickness, no leg pain, and a good amount of energy. We are so thankful for these days! We've learned that he loves to take warm baths to help when he does have leg pain and he has been a champ at getting his shots at home. I would like to mention that Austin was a quick study at learning how to assemble the needle and give the injection. I'm so thankful he stepped up to take on that responsibility while I get the easy job of holding Asa still in my lap.

Today was going to be a quick hospital visit for an LP and chemo in his spine but his labs came back showing his blood levels were low and he needed a blood transfusion. We were told he would need it today or he would have to back in a few days needing the transfusion. The words the doctor chose were: "He won't make it till next week." We paused for a minute, knowing what he meant, but wanting to clarify his choice of words. We all had a good laugh and he was grateful for our sense of humor in the situation.

Asa responded well to his chemo and transfusion today but was exhausted and slept almost the whole way home.

Praises:
  • We discovered that warm baths help when Asa's legs hurt!
  • Asa learned that he likes to take his medicine with grape jelly (this week at least...lol).
  • Our family was accepted to attend a fall family camp at Camp Sunshine (a camp for kids with cancer) mid-October.
  • We figured out what was causing Asa's nausea.

Prayers:
  • For Asa's doctors and nursing staff to see Christ in us and come to a saving knowledge of Him.
  • That Asa would understand how the care he is receiving and the medicine he takes is for his good.
  • For good attitudes for all the kids as we balance homeschooling in the midst of this.
