The past few days have been good days for Asa. He responded well to this last round of chemo and since he stopped taking the steroids his face is less puffy and appetite is returning to normal. He has had a lot of "normal" kid moments like riding his bike and dance parties with siblings.

Yesterday we got word that his new med was approved by our insurance and was ready for pick-up – praise the Lord! They could deliver but it wouldn't arrive till Tuesday and we thought it important to be able to start him on it ASAP. This med will block the bad protien released by the Philadelphia chromosome (see previous update). We took a road trip to Emory's specialty pharmacy to pick-it up and stopped at CFA for milkshakes on the way home. That night he successfully swallowed his new med with no problem – another praise! He still struggles with stubbornness in taking his meds but it has gotten easier.

Today Austin took the boys to get haircuts. We know his hair will start falling out soon and we wanted to give him a fresh cut before that happens. I will miss his blonde curls! Asa was so excited to get out of the house and do something different!

Because he is still considered very immunocompromised, we have been keeping him home as much as possible to help prevent him from getting sick. Any simple bug for us could mean a trip to the hospital for him. It's been hard helping him and his siblings wrap their minds around extra careful.

This week we have been blessed to have several meals delivered and it has been one less thing for us to have to plan/think about. Over the past few weeks we have been so well loved on in so many ways by friends, family, and church family (and even a few people we don't even know!). We have truly wondered how people can make it through hard times like this without the body of Christ!

Things God is Teaching us:
  • God's goodness is sometimes best seen best in the darkness.
    • Isaiah 45:3 - And I will give you treasures hidden in the darkness– secret riches. I will do this so you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel, the one who calls you by name.
  • God uses "bad" situations, as tough as they may be, for our good and His glory. This valley is building our testimony and faith.

Songs We've Loved:
  • Faith is Found by JJ Weeks Band
  • Though You Slay Me by Shane & Shane
  • What An Awesome God by Phil Wickham
