Yesterday, Abigail had a full day of appointments at the University of Virginia, along with two virtual appointments. We didn’t get home until 5:00 p.m.

One of her appointments was with pulmonology, and surprisingly, it was probably the shortest appointment we’ve ever had with them. The reason for that is actually encouraging, Abigail has been so healthy and stable that there wasn’t much to discuss. Because of how well she’s been doing, the plan is to possibly move pulmonology visits to once a year instead of every three months, since the last few appointments have all been uneventful.

Tomorrow, Abigail has more appointments at UVA, and so does Gunnar. Please be praying for Gunnar specifically. He will be sedated for his dentist appointment so they can get imaging done and take a closer look at a few teeth they are concerned about. He has never been sedated before, so this will be a new experience for all of us. We’d appreciate prayers that everything goes smoothly and that he does well.

I’ve also had a few people ask about the updated plan that the ENT surgeon, Devin, and I discussed when he called us Saturday night. As I’ve shared in previous updates, Abigail and I are heading to Boston in three weeks for her pre-op appointment and Botox injections. The ENT surgeon now wants to take advantage of the fact that she’ll already be sedated for the Botox and take a look at her airway, since it’s been almost a year since he last examined it.

The reason he wants to check her airway is to make sure it hasn’t drastically changed and to confirm that an LTR (laryngotracheal reconstruction) is still the surgery he believes is best for her. Another reconstructive airway surgery, called a CTR, could be an option, depending on what he sees. If you’re curious about the difference between the two, there are some helpful videos on YouTube that explain them well.

Thank you for the continued prayers, and encouragement. Please continue to pray for Abigail’s surgery on April 6.
