Day 10: side effects and cell watching

It’s been a quiet few days for me as this is one of the rougher periods I’ve had dealing with side effects from the chemo. Even though my pre-transplant chemo ended about two weeks ago, it can take that long for some things to start happening: hair loss, skin peeling, weird aftertaste and other random irritations to name a few. The chemo was very high dose and different than previous rounds for sure!
But I’ve made it to day 10 post transplant which means I’m closer to my new cells “engrafting” or making their home in my blood. That could start happening as early as day 13. Once that happens my white blood cell counts will go up and I’ll start feeling better and will be able to leave the hospital!
Once I do leave the countdown continues, as I need to be near the hospital for 100 days total post transplant. I’ll have low immunity still at that point, as I will need all of my old immunizations again and won’t get those until my 6 month mark. But one step at a time! Here’s to hoping for a more comfortable week coming up!

Thank you for the update. This is such a rough journey! praying that all these treatments do their work as I know they have for others. You have an amazing attitude and clearly are blessed with strength.
Sending you my very warmest wishes as your body reshapes itself around the graft.
