It's been a while since I've updated, and I wish it was because things were going amazingly well. Unfortunately, that's not the case. After 2 weeks of really strong chemo Willow's counts dropped, Blood and platelet infusions were keeping her steady and stable. On Friday May 15th Willow started to decline really fast throughout the day, By 5:45 Willow spiked a very high fever of 103.4. I got her to the ER within 15 minutes because we are staying at Ronald McDonald House, unfortunately it wasn't enough. Within 24 hours, she was diagnosed with Typhlitis, it's brought on by strong chemo killing her gut bacteria and causing swelling. She is stable but not out of the woods yet. She's not allowed to eat or drink anything and has started TPN which is total nutrition through her port. On top of that we found out she was septic. Multiple antibiotics were started and CT scans confirmed diagnosis. Her room flooded with teams from infectious disease, surgery, GI, along with her oncology team all coming up with a plan to help her get through this. Right now she's extremely uncomfortable. Her belly is tender and hurts. She's hungry and thirsty all the time, but we can't give her anything to help. Her fever has stayed down but she still needs Tylenol, and Zofran to help with nausea as well as 2 antibiotics. Thank you to everyone who is giving our family the calm and space we need at this time. Know we appreciate you all for all of the love and support we feel for willow and our entire family we couldn't do it without you. Let's hope and pray the next update has better news.
