We wanted to share an update now that John is finally back home resting in his own bed.
As many of you know, John had a fallΒ  over two weeks ago. That impact caused trauma and deep bruising to his kidney area, which ultimately led to a localized infection. Because of the delay in getting the right answers, the infection began heading toward a severe systemic reaction (sepsis), requiring him to be held in observation at Hershey for IV antibiotics and close monitoring.
While we are deeply relieved that he is home and stable, we were extremely disappointed and frustrated with the treatment and lack of care he received in the emergency room at Hershey. Instead of listening to his history or looking at his physical injury from the fall, the ER staff were completely fixated on standard, off-base assumptions and put him through hours of unnecessary stress and invasive questioning before finally admitting what was actually going on.
Thankfully, the IV treatments did their job, and he is now back home recovering. He will need a follow-up kidney MRI in the coming weeks to make sure the injured area is continuing to heal properly, along with routine blood work.
Thank you all so much for your continued love, prayers, and support during an incredibly exhausting few days. We are so glad to have him home where he can rest peacefully!
