Update on Brooke 💛
We ended Friday in the hospital after Brooke developed a fever of 102. They gave her two bags of fluids and two different antibiotics, and after several hours in the ER, we were able to go home. We are still waiting for the blood cultures to come back to make sure there is no infection.
Her fever has come back down, but she still continues to be very nauseous and has been vomiting on and off for the last week or so. Unfortunately, everything we have tried so far to help with the nausea just isn’t bringing her any relief. I currently have her eating a ginger tummy pop, but she made me eat one with her. 🫣
Her labs drawn Friday also showed that her liver enzymes and bilirubin are going back up, which explains why we’ve noticed her eyes starting to yellow again. We are really hoping she will be able to get treatment this week since she wasn't able to last week due to her liver counts.
Tomorrow, it’s back to the hospital for an IVIG infusion. Brooke’s immunoglobulin levels are extremely low, which means she has fewer antibodies available to help protect her from infections right now. The IVIG will provide her with antibodies from donated plasma to help give her immune system some additional protection.
Brooke was really bummed that she missed out on her final year of camp this week, but Brooke’s church leaders surprised her by putting her face on a stick and bringing “Brooke” to camp since she wasn’t able to go herself. She was a little surprised when she saw her face in one of the camp pictures posted. 😂
Please continue to pray for Brooke. She is really struggling—not only physically with the constant nausea, vomiting and everything else her body is going through, but emotionally as well. She has been feeling very isolated.
