The Hassey Family
Although we are still struggling to wrap our heads around the news that we received from Dottie’s MRI, and are feeling like the weight of the world is on us, we do still have reasons to be thankful. Dottie girl is showing us that she’s more than those images of her brain and she may be capable of more than is expected.
Dottie’s O2 levels are under control because the CPAP machine did its job. As a result, she was able to go back to the high-flow nasal cannula. Her sodium levels are also responding well to the medication they’ve been giving her and those levels have consistently been where they need to be.
Her body seems to be adjusting to her seizure medications as she’s been much more alert, awake for longer periods of time, and looking around at her surroundings. We’ve been getting lots more snuggle time since she’s been able to maintain her body temperature outside of the warmer. Which means she’s also been able to wear some cute and cozy outfits along with her pretty hair bows. But the most exciting thing is that today we started working on feeding. Dottie girl showed us that she knows what she’s supposed to do. Without very much prompting at all, she figured out how to nurse. This practice will help as we work toward bottle feeding next week. I think our girl is trying to tell the doctors, “You think I won’t be able to do this? Watch me!”
We are thankful for every glimmer of light in the darkness right now, and these past two days have been brighter.
