The Gurbal Fam
We’ve had lots of people checking in to see how John is doing so we wanted to provide an update for everybody.
For the first time in his entire life, we have an update that ONLY contains positive progress.
John has been home for just five days, but this time around it seems like we brought home a completely different baby. This is just a short list of the answered prayers from the last week:
A lot of the struggles and worries that we fought through for the last three months are gone, and his breathing is greatly improved. Not one time have we considered that he may need an ambulance or to be rushed to the ER.
Any periodic breathing struggles are easily fixed with some suctioning at home.
He is able to take the majority of his milk by mouth, and is getting better every day at learning to breathe and drink from a bottle the correct way, a skill most babies are born with that John hasn’t ever had the chance to learn. We’re thankful to have his feeding tube as backup, but are using it less and less every day.
We are absolutely shocked by this, but he has been sleeping through the night. Now that his ability to eat has improved, he’s getting all the calories he needs during the day and is sleeping so soundly at night without needing to wake up and eat.
He continues to gain weight.
We were able to get in with a therapy group very quickly and have already started with occupational and feeding therapy to help him catch up on some minor developmental things (better head control, oral intolerances from all the surgeries, etc…)
We continue to be amazed every day at his rapid progress and can’t hardly put into words how thankful we are that we’ve finally gotten him to a spot where he can function like a normal baby. It’s probable there’s more procedures on the horizon, but that is much more manageable now that he’s in a better spot and we can help him grow and develop from home.
God has been so good to our family and we couldn’t be more grateful.
