The Givehand Family
Hello Family & Friends,
It's day 20 in the hospital and updating y'all with all the things Damon is experiencing and all that we are navigating here is somewhat difficult because as soon as I know what to update you on, something changes. His situation remains delicate and like a line of dominoes. One thing changes and it impacts 5 other things. And navigating it all continues to show me that the medical system is a maze at best. Thank you for your comments to the updates. I am reading them even if I am not able to respond to them at this time. Keep them coming.
First things first, Damon is still alive and still fighting for his life. His situation has been up and down depending on the day. We've gone from them telling me they are sending him home, to them telling me I need to talk to Hospice because he has started to transition, to them moving him back to ICU where they found that he has an infection in his blood that could be causing all the things that made it seem like he was transitioning.
If you are saying HOLY HELL right now, yeah, me too -- multiple times a day -- and mine is a little harsher than HOLY HELL.
His body is extremely WEAK because they still haven't found a way to feed him. An obstruction in the digestive track that they are calling a slow digestive system (they suspect from the anesthesia) has created a bit of a conundrum. They are working on it with several non-invasive things they are attempting. This is where we can use some targeted positive energy for him.
He had to have the medi-port removed because they need to rule it out as the source of the blood infection and because having any foreign object in the body can cause infections to worsen. So, more anesthesia and likely more sluggishness on the digestive system. This also means he just took a step backwards because the medi-port was how he would get chemo (although the oncologist is sure that there may still be a way to start if Damon gets stronger).
He's also not sleeping very well (hospitals are not hotels, let's be clear), but when there are times when he can get some sleep he sleeps with one eye open. I keep reassuring him that I am here and he is safe and he can just sleep. It works some of the time. I've given up on trying to get him on the proper circadian rhythm, that's a problem for when he gets home. In here, I just want him to sleep when he can.
They keep moving him from room to room in the ICU which is frustrating but the least of our worries right now. He continues to have a blood sugar that keeps dropping and is receiving an anti-fungal medication for the blood infection.
He alternates between awareness and lethargy when his blood sugar drops and continues to have extreme atrophy which we are working on between procedures, medications being administered, sleeping, shift changes, doctor consults, and six times a day respiratory therapy.
I've heard/received so many stories of people who have been worse off than Damon and have made full recoveries or gotten really close to full recovery. I believe in Damon and his will to live, now I just need his body to get on board and THRIVE. They tell me that if his body won't cooperate, there's not much they can do in terms of moving him forward. I am not giving up on him. I'm just calling in miracles and hail marys all around.
I've been praying with him daily, reminding him to do 10 gratitudes in his head each day, getting his friends and family on the phone so he can hear their voices (some have been sending recorded messages to me to play for Damon as often as needed), having him mentally say a list of affirmations to keep his mind strong, letting him listen to Vedic chanting that he loves -- some in his own voice, and of course just surrounding him with love, laughter, and good energy.
I've also been reaching out to people who I know have healed their bodies from significant illnesses using alternative methodologies to see what can be done safely and under the supervision of a qualified person. The calls are out to the physical, spiritual, and metaphysical realms.
Thank you again and again for your positive contributions here, whether monetary, energetic, written, or spiritual, we are grateful to have so many people cheering us on.
With DEEP gratitude,
Kiala
