The De La Torre Family
Hi all,
Lau (Andrea’s younger sister) here - We have been a little quiet on the support page because there has been so much going on.
Andrea moved out of the ICU within 2 days of her surgery. She then spent 4 days in the hospital room. She was in a lot of pain and experienced a lot of frustration when it came to realizing all the different ways her body has to heal. She is such a social extrovert and by Sunday she really needed to see her family and friends. We took the kids to go see her on Sunday and she truly enjoyed their snuggles and company. Marco snuggled her for an hour straight. She ended up having 22 visitors that day! Seeing and feeling all the love around her helped her spirits a lot.
On Monday, she was transferred to a rehab facility. There, she will spend the next 2-5 weeks regaining her strength, speech, and motor skills. She will go through physical, recreational, speech, music, occupational therapy. She is working so hard to be able to retrain her brain how to move her left leg and arm.
We have been taking the kids to visit her every day. They miss her so dearly and absolutely love going to see their mom.
She started intensive therapy yesterday and she has already been able to take some steps with the assistance of her physical therapist. She is making great progress in this long and hard road ahead of her.
We are in awe of her determination and her strength. We are so incredibly proud of her resilience. Please keep her and her family in your prayers.
