The Da Costa Family!
Thank you all for your support! We have arrived in Boston and are Currently on Day 3 of our intensive! Day 1 was challenging as our boy was going on basically no sleep, but after a nap halfway through the day then a full night sleep he hit the ground running on Day 2. He is starting to get used to his therapists and his schedule, his day starts at 8am and he has two hours of therapy then a break and therapy again for two hours at 12:30 pm. Initially I had mentioned he would be using the Neurosuit for two hours in the morning, but yesterday for his DMI therapy we used theratogs and our Morning PT stopped in to assist and loved the way he was working with the Theratogs and asked if we could try for his session in the morning. So this morning his two therapists agreed that this seems to work best for him, and we decided to keep using the theratogs in the morning, the neurosuit was making him work too hard. For those wondering: Theratogs - NAPA (napacenter.org) at some point we may revisit the Neurosuit but for now he looks AMAZING working with the theratog, we may look into getting one for him to keep and go to school in, its only day three so we'lll see as the weeks go on!
Cristiano has also bene working with a speech therapist to help him communicate he has been trialing one of the Eyegaze AAC device and seems to be getting the hang of it, our main concern is his right-sided preference, so we are working on only putting one option on the left side of the screen to force him to look. We will try a different system today, it is also an elegize device, but it is a different interface we'll see which works better. We may also try switches to have yes-no answers but ideally i'd prefer eyegaze as it has many more options. As we all know Cristiano is a cheeky guy, so even though he won't hit the left side option he will still find the smallest button on the screen with his eyes and shut off the eye gaze sensor haha
Thank you all again for your support i will continue to post updates and pictures as we go! Attached you will find a picture of cristiano in his Neurosuit
