Greyson had another quiet night. We did have an episode of desating yesterday while the nurses were giving him his bath but thankfully, that hasn’t happened since.
His chest x-ray today looks a little better. They are going to continue his intense airway clearance to try to help his lungs clear up. He remains on automode on the ventilator, though yesterday we hardly saw him take his own breath. They are going to wean the ventilator a little bit today to try to encourage him to take his own breaths so we can move toward extubation.
They are also going to continue to wean his sedation medications to encourage him to take his own breaths.
His loose stool is worse today but they said that is actually a good sign and means it’s not likely to be GVHD. They expect the gut to be torn apart after a bone marrow transplant and described it as like a stomach bug. He said you have to give it time (more time than necessary for recovering after a bug) and the lining of his stomach will heal and he’ll tolerate feeds again. They are increasing his feeds for now to encourage his gut to work.
They are going to call Wound Care to come take a look at his bottom. He has a ton of skin breakdown on his bottom and they are very concerned about his risk of infection with open wounds near his stool. 💚🧡🎗️
