The hope today is for a quiet day.
Yesterday, we tried to do a CPAP trial but had to end it early. As soon as he was switched to CPAP, his blood pressure dropped and they had to switch him back to Auto and give him medicine to raise it.
He also has been having low heart rates. These are likely caused by his sedation. His doctors are watching them closely and trying to slowly wean his sedation.
They are working towards extubating him in the next couple of days. They would like to do his brain MRI before they extubate him and they are talking with pulmonology about doing a bronchoscopy and removing the ‘foreign body’. Both of these things need done (if they decide to move forward with them) before he can be extubated. The bronchoscopy is very risky for him, which is why they have not done it sooner.
His loose stools have improved so they will likely be adding his feeds back tomorrow and seeing if his stools continue to improve or if they need to consider GVHD of the gut.
We had some moments of wakefulness yesterday. He was obviously very groggy and we had to bolus his sedation when he couldn’t settle back down. But we have seen him intentionally work to open his eyes and try to see us, and he seems to know we are here with him. 💚🧡🎗️
