Chelsea Brem and Family
Today was another full therapy day for Chelsea, with steady work across speech, occupational therapy, recreation therapy, and vestibular/vision support.
Speech Therapy focused on reading and language organization. Chelsea practiced CVC words with increased distractions and worked on categorization and association tasks. She correctly identified and grouped clothing types and furniture items, including self‑corrections along the way. Her therapist also added extra reading practice in the afternoon to support these skills.
Recreational Therapy included a cup and ball bounce game to work on coordination and engagement. There is a possible community outing for ice cream planned later this week, depending on how she’s feeling. Chelsea does love ice cream!
Occupational Therapy targeted dynamic movements and reaction speed, including turning her head and body together. Vision activities focused on tracking, convergence (keeping images aligned), depth perception, and moving objects. She used blazepods today, which we are told are used by athletes to measure speed and agility.
Physical Therapy focused on agility‑based movements that incorporated similar head and body turning as occupational therapy. These activities were designed to continue working on coordinated movement and directional changes while staying within Chelsea’s tolerance.
Today, Chelsea officially graduated from vestibular/vertigo therapy. Her care team shared that this transition reflects how her symptoms are currently presenting and that they will continue to monitor her closely within her broader therapy plan. Additional follow up options are available if needed, but for now this marks a shift in focus rather than an endpoint.
In the middle of all the therapy and hospital routines, we were thankful for a few small moments of normal life…Kara finally snuck out for a haircut, and Mike and Cullen got some much needed time together last night at the Pens vs. Hurricanes game. Those small pauses help carry us through.
As always, we are grateful for the thoughtful care Chelsea continues to receive and for the steady support surrounding our family. We remain focused on taking things one day at a time and allowing Chelsea the space and time she needs to heal.
Thank you for continuing to keep her in your thoughts and prayers.💗
PS: Several people have asked about this Saturday’s fundraiser, so we wanted to share the details again here. Thank you for keeping our family so well supported.
