Chelsea Brem and Family
Today was another full and steady therapy day for Chelsea, with care thoughtfully coordinated across her entire team.
From a medical standpoint, routines and adjustments continue as directed by her providers, with ongoing attention to comfort, regulation, and sleep. Her medical team remains closely involved, monitoring and guiding each step with care.
In occupational therapy, Chelsea worked on cognitive skills through a playing the game “Guess Who” which encouraged strategy, deduction, and sustained attention. OT also included balance, coordination, and movement work, along with practicing head turns while moving…skills that are being approached intentionally and safely.
In physical therapy, Chelsea focused on lateral and side‑to‑side movements, grounding, and controlled ball activities designed to support coordination and stability. Today’s PT was a substitute who happens to be a former softball player herself, and she thoughtfully incorporated sport‑inspired movements into the session…meeting Chelsea where she is while keeping the focus on safe, purposeful motion and body awareness.
In recreational therapy, Chelsea engaged in lighter activities, including ping pong and playing “Happy Birthday” on the piano. Yes…Chelsea played it. All those piano lessons years ago paid off! These moments provide opportunities for rhythm, participation, and expression within a supportive therapeutic environment.
Speech therapy included reading simple words, writing full sentences, and working on telling time. Sessions continue to be structured and responsive, adapting to how Chelsea presents each day while supporting communication and cognition.
Chelsea was also seen for vestibular therapy today. The PT noted findings consistent with central vestibular involvement, which can occur following a brain injury. This will continue to be monitored, with follow up planned to ensure everything is addressed thoughtfully and aligned with her broader care plan.
Last night brought a moment that filled our hearts. Chelsea’s big brother, Cullen, is home on spring break and spent the evening with us, bringing her one of her favorite Cook Out milkshakes and simply hanging out together. It wasn’t anything complicated, just time together, laughter, and the comfort of being a family in the same room.
We’re continuing to take this one day at a time, trusting Chelsea’s care team and allowing space for rest, healing, and connection. Thank you for walking alongside us with your prayers, encouragement, and quiet strength. It truly means more than we can say. 💗
As always, while we are deeply grateful for the love and support surrounding our family, we continue to prioritize rest, privacy, and healing during this stage of Chelsea’s recovery.
