At the Intersection of Patience and Urgency

A friend shared a few weeks ago that she feels like she’s standing at the intersection of patience and urgency. Funny how that sentiment fits so perfectly where we are right now with Chelsea.

Little Miss had a rough night and was pretty uncomfortable, with lots of movement and restlessness—but she’s still showing that stubborn personality we all know and love. Because she was so active, the team brought in a safety sitter to stay at her bedside, who arrived early this morning.

Today has been a quieter day. Chelsea is resting comfortably and getting the calm her body needs. After 11 days in the PICU at WakeMed Children’s Hospital, she finally got some much needed “spa time.” Her hair was washed, deep conditioned, and braided. Huge thanks to our friend who bought all the hair products and combs/brush and the incredible care team, including our Nurse Tech, Chelsea (yes—same name!🤩) for making that happen. It meant more than they probably realize.

We also met Douglas Fur (aka Dug), the therapy dog, in the hallway today. What a sweet boy. Somehow, dogs always seem to know exactly what you need even when you don’t. (And for those who know, you know that says a lot.) Chelsea didn’t get to meet Dug yet, but we know she’s going to love him just as much as we did or even more when the time comes.

Thank you for continuing to walk with us, love on Chelsea, and hold space for us as we live in this place of patience and urgency. 💕

It sounds like you have a great care team. So sorry that Chelsea’s night was a tough one but happy the day has been calmer. The spa time sounds lovely. Thank you for sharing your updates. I am sure that I am one among many who look forward to them. Sending prayers and love. Carolyn

Funny how "fur babies" can sometimes be the best medicine for all of us! I would send down our Sheltie, Noel, but she'd be running the halls without stopping--only to get tummy rubs. Keep the faith! God has a plan!! Thinking of you all!! Give hugs to all for Tom & I both! Thank you for the updates.

I taught Chelsea HLH last year and quickly learned what an amazing person she is. I’ve been thinking about her every day and wanted to reach out, but I haven’t had the words. Please know that she is in my prayers and I am thinking of you all. Sending so many well wishes and healing vibes.
