We’re thankful to share that Chelsea had a quiet and restful night, and today brought several encouraging moments.
Chelsea had her initial Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy assessments, and she truly blew them out of the water. The both were very impressed with how she did.
To best support her healing, the team has placed a low stimulation environment sign on her door and implemented even tighter visitation access. This is a positive and intentional step to protect her energy, focus, and neurological recovery.
Chelsea was also seen by a neuropsychologist today. Once she is extubated, she will continue working closely with this specialist as part of her ongoing recovery.
Another big milestone was that Chelsea successfully completed a 30 minute pressure support trial on the ventilator! She then completed a second trial this afternoon, all to gear up for a possible ventilator extubation tomorrow. These are very encouraging signs that we are celebrating right now! She’s still sedated but with continued weaning overnight and tomorrow this will be a big step forward! 😍
As today marks Day 12 in the PICU, we’re also doing our best to stay positive and take care of ourselves so we can continue to be present for Chelsea. There’s a Wake Well Fit Walk loop around the hospital that’s about a mile long, and we’ve been trying to get out and walk it often. Don’t worry, we are also eating well (a lot!) and staying hydrated. Honestly, we’ve been blessed with so much food that we’ve even been able to share with the care team at times.
For those who have wondered, we are both staying in Chelsea’s room with her. We’ve carved out a very small corner of the room, it’s just enough space to rest and zero storage space, but we wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.💗
We continue to be incredibly grateful for the exceptional care Chelsea is receiving and for the prayers, messages, and support surrounding our family. Please continue to keep Chelsea and her care team in your thoughts as we take these next steps forward.
