A Thumbs Up Kind of Day 👍🎉

This morning started with a small but much‑needed win for us. Chelsea had a safe sitter overnight, which allowed us to get some real rest…something we’re incredibly grateful for.

She’s been very restless today, squirming all over and clearly uncomfortable, but that didn’t stop her from giving us something to celebrate. When Mike asked her for a thumbs up this morning, she followed the command. 🎉 Such a small movement, but such a huge victory for her and for us.

She’s had some groans today but no actual words yet. That’s okay. After 13 days of intubation, we know her throat is likely sore, and we’re giving her grace and time.

And then came another big moment… Chelsea started throwing a ball—softball style! 🥎 Multiple times in a row, right from the bed, tossing it back and forth to Mom and Dad at first. Purposeful movement like that fills our hearts more than we can put into words.

Throughout the day, we continued to see intentional actions:

• Threw the ball repeatedly from the bed to us, the doctor and the nurse tech, Mr Andy.

• Gave Mike the bird (yes…that finger and yes he probably deserved it. 😂)

• Smiled twice 🎉🎉🎉

She also had PT and OT today, where she sat up and stood with support (with two people assisting). After PT, she became pretty overstimulated, so Mom crawled into bed and cuddled with her and that made a huge difference. Sometimes comfort (and mom) is the best therapy of all. 💕

Speech therapy completed an initial assessment and tried ice chips and water. It didn’t go as planned today, but we’ll regroup and try again tomorrow.

Today continues to be full of purposeful movement, determination, and small victories…the kind that remind us just how strong Chelsea is. Thank you all for the continued prayers, encouragement, and love. Please keep them coming. 💗
