I am sorry I haven't posted in a few days. I decided to lump a few days together in a big post instead of a daily little post. Luckily, Mike's updates are taking getting shorter and more positive! Here's what has been going on the last few days...
- Mike is enjoying his new room. He said the ICU room had bad juju. He felt like there was no end in sight, sitting there staring at nothing. He has been the most excited about his very own bathroom with a mirror because he forgot what he looked like. This new room has given him much more hope and motivation because it is one step closer to HOME!
- His WBC goes down everyday which is amazing! The infectious disease doctor is pleased with this. She is continuing to check out everything and making sure the antibiotic he is on for the fungus and bacteria is the correct one. She said that while he is in the hospital, she will keep him on a IV form but will send him home with a pill version for 20 days once he leaves.
- Mike's platelets went down about 70,000. However, it is still in the millions. The surgeon says that he wishes it was going down in the hundred of thousands but he will take what he can get. We agree with this!
- The surgeon continues to come in and clean his wounds and change the dressings. They are looking much better. The major wound on his belly was loosely closed shut to allow drainage. With the open space in the wound, the surgeon packs it with gauze to soak up the fluids. Tricia took a video of them changing it and it was really gross.
- Mike says his lungs feel a little bit better. He said when he walks, he can breathe more. One thing we noticed at the beginning of this mess, was when he would talk, it would sound really soft and breathy. Now when he talks, he sounds more like himself and he doesn't need to take a breath in between words.
- He has upgraded to applesauce, cream of wheat, and pudding! This is super exciting since he has only had clear foods for over two weeks.
- Mike will be getting another CT scan to check out his small urine leak. He also had a chest xray and we are waiting for the results. Hopefully both of these tests show improvement.
- He still has a bit of pain but that's to be expected after 4 surgeries in one week. He said it has subsided a good amount.
John and Laura came down on Thursday to spend a week with us. They were very excited to see how well Mike looked compared to the week before. Mike loves visitors because he gets a bit bored and lonely everyday. However, he has started to finally watch tv. He was in so much pain before that he couldn't even open his eyes to watch tv while in the ICU. We are still so grateful for the love and support from everyone. We still can feel the prayers that you all are praying. Thank you so very much. Please keep the prayers coming so we can get my dad HOME! Love you all!
