Hi everyone! I am sorry I didn't write an update yesterday. I will combine it with today's!
- Mike is still in a lot of pain. He complained about pain in his lungs yesterday (3/25) mostly. He also says it hurts when he eats or drinks. They are continuing to take x-rays to watch his lungs for improvement but his lungs are still being stubborn.
- Tricia demanded that a hematologist be called in to take a look at his platelets since they are still rising and are over 1 million. The hematologist looked at his chart and said that they were not concerned. They said since Mike had 4 surgeries and a ton of holes/cuts that would explain the high platelet count. The hematologist said if Mike had an elevated level of platelets before the first surgery then they would be concerned about a type of cancer. Since Mike's levels were normal before, they are confident this high level is because of his body healing.
- The surgeon cleaned all of the wounds and changed the dressings really good. They will continue to do this to help with the sepsis infection in his wounds.
- His WBC went down from 19,000 to 16,000 yesterday, and went down again to 14,000 today which is great news.
- His bowels are still not "waking" up. They don't want to start him on foods yet because they are worried about a blockage. If the bowels aren't doing their job and moving food/waste down, this will cause build up and we will have a big issue.
- The urologist came in and said that he wants to keep Mike on the catheter for another 2 weeks just to be safe. So he currently has a catheter and a nephrostomy bag. Eventually, when Mike is strong, He will undergo another surgery (number 5) to reconstruct his bladder tubing and remove the nephrostomy bag.
- They will be moving him to a step down room as soon as one becomes available. Tricia and I are a little sad about that. We like him in the ICU because the nurses are amazing and are always watching him. However, we are glad he is well enough to move.
- The pain he complains of is mostly from when he tries to drink anything. He says there is a lot of pressure and he feels full.
Overall, these last two days have been much better. The surgeon admitted to Mike and Tricia that a week ago he was worried that Mike wouldn't make it. He said as long as nothing else happens, he feels more confident now. My mom and I feel a little more encouraged but there are still areas we are worried about.
Please continue to pray for his sleepy belly to wake up and no pain when he eats or drinks. Please pray that his platelets start to go down and stop rising. Pray that he does not get a pneumonia, blood clots, or anything else. God is so good!
Aubrie had her first golf match yesterday. I brought her and I am not very knowledgeable in golf. She was sad that her dad couldn't be there. He is the golf guru! I know he was very upset that he couldn't be there. I am almost positive that he would have rather been at golf than sitting in the ICU. We are so appreciative for all of the support we are still receiving from everyone. We love every single one you!
