Hi everyone! Sorry for the late update. Today was an average day for Mike. However, Tricia and I are very confused... On the outside it seems as though Mike is turning a corner. He is more alert, looks good, and seems to talk more. We thought these were all great signs. Everyday they take labs and check his vitals. Unfortunately, his numbers are not great. So here we go...
  • Mike's x-ray showed no lung improvement. It showed his lungs are still 3/4 collapsed with small fluid pockets. Still no pneumonia which is good.
  • His WBC are up from 18,000 yesterday, to 19,000 today.
  • His platelets are up to over 1 million which is not great at all.
  • Hemoglobin is a 10.
  • They test nutrition levels and show that he sits at a 10 when an average person should be in the 20's. The surgeon will not switch him to solid foods until his bowels start to show more movement or that they are more "awake".
  • Mike says when he drinks his chicken broth, he feels full and immediately starts to burp. The surgeon is confused why Mike feels full.
  • He is leaking a weird fluid even though he has a colostomy bag. The surgeon is at a lost as to what that may be.
  • They expressed a hematoma in his 12 inch wound and packed it full with a bunch of gauze. The wounds are testing positive for the same septic infection that they found on the inside of him.
We know sepsis is a major recovery and he has a long ways left to go. We are wondering if maybe we need a second opinion? I guess it is just a waiting game...

Please please please pray for his numbers to improve, his bowels to wake up, and this weird fluid to go away. Please also pray that his lungs show improvement and that he can start to drink more broth or apple juice to help increase his nutritional levels. God has been so very good to us and we love Him with all of our hearts. He is a healer and I believe He will heal my dad.

Aubrie went back to school today and had golf. Brady continues to work but ended up having to drop a college course to help my mom and dad. My mom, Tricia, was able to spend most of the day with my dad in the ICU. She is very busy while she is there trying to rally and give my dad the support and confidence he needs. I had to go back to work. It is hard to focus on work when all I can think about is my dad. Let me tell you, he is the best dad. We all just want him to start to get better. God has blessed us with the most amazing dad.

Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through him who strengthens me".

Jeremiah 30:17 "I will restore you to health and heal your wounds", declares the Lord.

Continuing to pray for Mike and all of your family! I agree with Kim that if the current Dr doesn’t “know why” something isn’t making sense then a second opinion sounds in order! Praying for answers!

Jeremiah 29:11 is a favorite of mine. Very applicable here. God has a plan for his life.
