Good Morning Friends & Family! Let's get to it...
  • Mike had a slight fever and a lot of pain in the night, it seems that the nights are still the worst for him. He still is running a slight fever this morning. They have been able to switch him to oral pain medication which lasts longer than the IV meds. This has helped him feel just a little bit of relief. We keep reminding ourselves that this is only day 11 after 4 surgeries... Of course he will still be in pain.
  • His platelets are 900,000 which is extremely high. This tells us that he is at risk for blood clots and other issues. They are giving him Heparin which is given as a blood thinner to prevent blood clots.
  • The nurses in the ICU are trying to get him up sitting and walking frequently. He took 3 walks yesterday! This will help strengthen his lungs since they are not improving very much.
  • They took cultures of his incisions from all 4 surgeries. Mike has one incision up the front of his stomach that is about 12 inches long (2nd surgery) and about 4 others (1st surgery) around the big one. He has an incision on his back from the kidney surgery (surgery 4). Unfortunately, all of these incisions tested positive for the same Sepsis infection that he currently has inside of his body. They will be cleaning those and frequently changing the dressings.
  • He has slowly been drinking water, chicken broth, and sucking on hard candies. He seems to enjoy chewing gum for the flavor since he hasn't had any flavors for 11 days.
Overall this wasn't a bad update. This is a long journey of healing and the nurses and doctors have told us that there will be things that are going to come up here and there. Please pray for his platelets to go down to a normal level and that he doesn't develop any blood clots. Please continue to pray for his lungs to strengthen and that he avoids catching a pneumonia. Lastly, please pray that his pain starts to subside and the infections go away. Tricia and I are so thankful for you all. Your prayers are working! Please keep them coming!

As far as a family update goes... We had relatives come this last week to help out at the house. Tom and Lenore came with Joy, Brooke, Brandon, Nikki, and Demi! Mike wanted to see baby Demi in the worst way but they do not allow anyone under 14 in the ICU. They all left and now we are going to try to get back to a somewhat "normal" life. Aubrie will be going back to school and I am officially done with spring break so I will be heading back to work. We are trying to figure out logistics on how to get Aubrie to and from school and then to and from golf. Austin has been taking care of the yard for Mike but if you know Mike, he is very particular with his yard. I think he appreciates the help though. Obviously he would love to do it on his own. Thank you again for everyone offering help! We appreciate everything everyone has done for us.
