The Addington Family
I’m sharing this update and expressing my deepest, most sincere gratitude to each and every one of you for your incredible generosity and continued support on behalf of the Addington family.
I have been given permission to share these images, but I want to provide a heartfelt warning that they are graphic and sensitive. They show the difficult reality of what Jon is facing and the extent of his injuries.
It’s been six days since Jon was severely burned, and his acute burn team warned us from the beginning that much of this would be a waiting game. They were right. There has been a lot of waiting, watching, praying, and quiet hours spent at his bedside.
So much can change in the first seven days after a serious burn. We now understand more fully the extent of Jon’s injuries—significant second- and third-degree burns covering 21% of his body. His entire face was burned, but incredibly, his sight was spared. He was wearing sunglasses when the explosion happened, and we are deeply grateful for that protection.
The majority of his third-degree burns are on the left side of his body. Over the last several days, however, we’ve watched areas of his right arm that were initially second-degree burns begin to progress into deeper, third-degree burns. It’s difficult to watch an injury continue to reveal itself days after the moment has passed.
Daily wound cleaning has proven to be one of the hardest parts of this entire experience for him. Tomorrow’s cleaning and evaluation should give us a clearer picture of what comes next, and right now, it appears that the next significant step may be surgery on his arms.
For now, our greatest prayer is that the progression of the burns will stop and Jon’s body can turn its full attention toward healing - and for no infection.
Thank you for continuing to pray for him—and for us—as we take this one day at a time.
