Teddie’s labs looked good today, and her chimerism remains stable. There’s no increase yet in her lymphoid percentage, but we’re grateful it’s holding steady.
We received some difficult news, her donor has been removed from the registry. We’ll likely never know why, whether it was a personal choice, a medical change, or something else. Our deepest hope is that he is well. We remain profoundly thankful for the life-saving gift he has already given and for how well those cells have served Teddie so far.
The plan now is to taper her medications more quickly, hoping her donor cells will take over completely and clear out any remaining Teddie cells. She’ll also have more frequent bone marrow biopsies so her team can keep a close watch.
Our hope is that since her cells were active in attacking Teddie cells in the beginning (graft versus host), they’ll just pick up where they left off when her immune system is let if it’s leash so to speak. One of the biggest concerns right now is are the 4% Teddie cells “healthy” Teddie cells. Frequent checks will be the deciding factor.
Our hearts are heavy tonight. It’s a complicated mix of not knowing what’s ahead, feeling the constant weight of uncertainty and yet still clinging to the blessings right in front of us. A happy Toddler.
