🧸 Day +28
Teddie had a great clinic day — she seemed more like herself: bright-eyed, playful, and full of little smiles. She was still anxious during her port access, but it went smoother than it has in weeks. It’s a small win, and we’ll take it. 💪

Her labs looked fantastic:
▪️ANC is up to 2.64, meaning her new marrow is working and building infection-fighting cells.
▪️Platelets and hemoglobin are rising steadily, and her other labs were right where they need to be.
▪️She gained a full pound this week without any appetite stimulants! 🙌 We’re so proud of her (and her carrot + waffle + milk diet 😄).

She did develop a rash late last week — it started on her hands and feet and has since spread to her legs and diaper area. Her team diagnosed it as early-stage skin GVHD (graft-versus-host disease). This is one of the more common post-BMT complications and happens when the new donor immune cells see parts of the patient’s body as “foreign” and attack — often starting with the skin.

We’ve started steroids to calm things down and prevent the rash from spreading further. Thankfully, Teddie’s GVHD is mild and caught early, which hopefully means we control it quickly.

🔎A little bit of GVHD— especially in the skin — can actually be protective. It’s a sign that her new immune system is active and alert. This can trigger something called graft-versus-leukemia (GVL) — where the donor immune cells also target and destroy any leftover leukemia cells that might be hiding. It’s one of the major reasons why bone marrow transplants are so effective in high-risk leukemia.

So yes, GVHD is something that’s monitored closely… but it may also mean her body is working hard to keep her healthy long-term. We’re holding onto that hope.

💛 Teddie is still her silly, strong, snuggly self — and we’re so proud of how far she’s come.

But even in our gratitude, our hearts are heavy. Some cancer families are walking through incredibly hard days right now. In 4K today, there’s a little one not much younger than Teddie fighting through a brutal stretch of his BMT. There are so many families struggling this week and it crushes me. It’s hard to celebrate fully when we know so many are suffering.

We give glory to God for Teddie’s progress — and we ask you to join us in praying for these families who need strength, hope, and healing. This journey is so much more than just our story — it’s a shared fight, and we feel the weight of that every day.

Give blood. Give platelets. Keep praying.
Because every one of those gifts is holding kids like Teddie — and so many others — together. 💛
