Friday Plans

I was able to visit with Steve yesterday afternoon.  He was more alert, his eyes were more open and he was making facial expressions.  I'm still not sure he knew it was me, but I like to believe he did.  His condition at this point is still stable and he is scheduled for the tracheostomy procedure on Friday. 

The priority for Steve's recovery will continue to be his breathing.  He will have a feeding tube put in until he can be taught again how to swallow.  I think we are the most looking forward to be able to talk with him again.  But we also know that won't happen right away, so we will work with the speech therapists at the hospital to ensure we are also exploring tools to support his communication.   I am so grateful to work in a field full of therapists and experts in the therapies he will need.
