We are almost at the halfway point of Seth's chemotherapy plan, with just a few more weeks until the midpoint (fingers crossed)!
Last Thursday, Seth had an interim PET scan to see how the cancer is responding to treatment so far, and the news is encouraging. Before starting chemotherapy, his cancer was rated a 5 on the Deauville 5-point scale, indicating very active disease. His latest scan showed a 3, which means the treatment is working and the cancer is responding well. We are incredibly grateful for this news, especially since a score of 4 or 5 would have meant moving to a more intensive treatment plan.
As expected, the cumulative effects of chemotherapy are becoming much more noticeable. Seth is now dealing with anticipatory and treatment-associated nausea, making chemo days especially difficult. His body has started associating the hospital and even some of his medications with feeling sick, which has added a new mental challenge to the physical one.
Thankfully, the rhythm of treatment still gives him a few good days every other week where he begins to feel like himself again. During those windows, he's able to get outside, enjoy some fresh air, and stay a little active. The fatigue and medication side effects have kept him from running, though, which has been especially difficult for those who know how much he loves it.
It seems this middle third of treatment may be the hardest - not just physically, but mentally as well. We would truly appreciate your continued prayers and encouragement as we keep moving forward.
On a lighter note, the head shave has officially happened! We decided to have a little fun with it by imagining all the possible Halloween costumes. Thank you, ChatGPT, for helping facilitate a little laughter during this season. We hope you all enjoy the pictures as much as we enjoyed making them.
One thing that has been especially sweet is watching Shadow (our Alaskan Malamute) become Seth's constant companion. She rarely leaves his side these days. Seth is definitely her favorite... and while I'm only sometimes jealous, I completely understand.
A special shoutout as well to Sam Hill's Barbershop for taking great care of Seth during the head shave. Great people and a great place.
Finally, thank you to everyone who has supported us through meals, financial gifts, kind messages, prayers, and simply checking in. We are deeply grateful and have felt so cared for during this season. ❤️
Love,
Jess and Seth
