Hello everyone,
We are coming to the end of yet another eventful week in the Rader house. I will keep this as short and sweet as I can!
On Monday night Madeline spiked a fever and we made a trip to the ER where we found that she had another UTI. She was started on IV antibiotics and we were sent home. We then proceeded to spend Tuesday through Thursday in the clinic each day for a dose of IV antibiotics as she continued to have fevers and feel yucky. Thursday evening David, Madeline, and myself drove down to Milwaukee as planned to have Madeline’s stent removed from her kidney and a surgery follow up appointment at Childrens early Friday morning. Halfway into our drive we received a call from her doctors asking us to drive straight to Childrens to be admitted. Her urine culture had finally come back and the antibiotics she had been getting all week were not effective for treating the bacteria that was actually growing in her urine. To this news I responded with an “Ok! We will be there soon!” The past month of chaos has certainly numbed us to last minute changes in our plans. SO….we drove straight to Childrens, were admitted overnight, and immediately started on antibiotics that were actually effective at treating her UTI. Her procedure to remove her stent the next morning was efficient and successful. We were discharged Friday night and came back home to our other girls. It is always good to be home. Madeline is still easily exhausted and spends a good amount of time resting but is fever free. We are hopeful that removing the stent from her kidney will eliminate her recurrent UTIs. We would really appreciate not going to the hospital every single day.
We are praying for an uneventful Sunday tomorrow. This upcoming week we will have long chemo days Monday through Friday so we will be busy and tired.
Please pray that we can catch a break. This past month has been rigorous and exhausting. We did finally get one true summer day a week ago and we crammed in all the fun activities just in case we don’t get a chance again this summer… The Farm in Door County, a picnic, the beach, and ice cream on the way home. It felt so good to have a taste of normal summer fun.
