Hello everyone,
Madeline is out of surgery and safely settled in the PICU for the night. Surgery was successful and went as well as it could have. Her tumor was removed and 80% of her kidney was spared. Praise God. It was a long procedure, but she was in good hands and we are incredibly thankful for a positive report from her surgeons.
She has a drain and a catheter in place to allow her kidney to recover over the next few days. We will spend the night in the ICU for close monitoring and will likely go to the surgical floor tomorrow if all is well. Pray for rest tonight. She is connected to alot of tubes and wires right now which may make sleep difficult once anesthesia starts to wear off. For now she is still sleeping comfortably. She did open her eyes long enough to acknowledge that David and I are next to her and gave us a groggy half smile when we told her that her tumor is out. All three of us went into today feeling good and ready to take another big step towards beating this cancer! It feels great to have surgery behind us.
Our plan is simply to snuggle her tonight and keep her as comfortable as we can. Like I said earlier our biggest prayer is for rest, pain control, and a smooth recovery. Thank you for covering us in prayer always. We feel it. On a day that could have been incredibly overwhelming we have instead been filled with peace, strength, and mental clarity that can only come from trusting that Jesus holds our girl in the palm of his hand.
Here is Madeline this morning in the waiting room with a big smile on her face as well as the cutest picture of all three of our girls from Monday night. We can't wait to see her smile again and be reunited as a family of five.
I will hopefully update you again tomorrow. We love you always!
