Paula VandenOever & family
I'm far too exhausted to say much this evening. Though there's a lot to say. Mostly, we just need prayers after two discouraging days.
The good: It's 9:30 pm on Saturday, and we're enjoying a delicious meal delivered by Spoonful of Comfort, courtesy of some friends. Our lawn was mowed by a team from church (though we got home and it was too dark for us to see how it looked). The Braves won β it was a game Paula and I had tickets for, but instead I watched from the hospital room. And Emma drove back to us from Chattanooga today and picked a peck of apples from the orchard! THANK YOU ALL.
The best: Paula had some really lucid moments where Marshall, Kitty, Halle, and I each got to spend some "just like old times" time together.
The however: Paula needed three CT scans today to explore a few episodes of fading lucidity. She'd engage with us, then be too sleepy to talk, and lose focus. It was unnerving. We finally left the hospital to take care of ourselves. Each day we think we'll spend 6 or 8 hours there, but end up there for 10 or 14.
Our nurse today took the time to explain the healing process to us, including why "2 to 3 weeks" is the recovery marker from an aneurysm. Why couldn't this have been in a packet the family is handed when their loved one checks in: "So Your Mom Had a Brain Aneurysm: What to Expect When You're Stressing?"
