Paige Yohe
Every couple years we check in with the podiatrist. With Paige’s low tone, one area we have worked to strengthen are her feet and ankle muscles as well as developing arches. She has always had pronation more on one side than the other, and while I can’t say what we have done has worked, it’s not for lack of trying. She wears custom inserts to help with the pronation.
Over the last few years she has developed bunions. We have worked to buy wide toed shoes, use k-tape to support, and tried many of the bunion supports (to no avail). She has complained more in the past year about them bothering her - especially during our long hikes/walks, running XC, during dance if up on her toes a lot, and sometimes just a regular day.
Her podiatrist said surgery could potentially help but there’s no real guarantee (of course there never really is…) and wouldn’t consider until she’s done growing. So at least 16 or older. So for now we just continue to work through it. She often asks for me to massage her feet in bed. We want to continue to encourage her to be an active 12 year old - build stamina, reap the benefits of daily exercise on the heart and brain, and have fun!
We got images/measurements taken for new inserts (keep growing kiddo!!) and X-rays to continue to monitor the bones and structure and make sure there are no major changes.
