One Month Update on Dad
This week marks one month since Dad’s surgery. We truly cannot begin to express how grateful we are for the love, prayers, and support so many of you have shown during this time. It has been humbling beyond words.
Dad is doing well! He did have a slight setback last week when he developed an infection at one of his incision sites, which meant a couple of extra trips to Boston and some strong antibiotics. Thankfully, they were able to get it under control, and he is feeling much better.
Overall, his healing is progressing well. Because the surgical margins were very tight where the tumor was removed, his team is recommending precautionary cancer treatment. We don’t yet know what that will look like or when it will begin. Meetings with the oncology team are still being scheduled, so we should know more soon. This feels like a big opportunity for prayer — for wisdom, clarity, and peace as we consider the next steps.
There is still considerable swelling, and it will take time for that to go down. But the doctors continue to be extremely pleased with his progress and are honestly blown away by how well he has handled everything — especially as a 79… I mean 80-year-old “young” man! 🎉 He celebrated his 80th birthday last week!
For now, Dad remains on a liquid diet, but he is feeling up to occasional visitors. We just ask that you please call or text Mom or Dad ahead of time to plan your visit. For those that have been asking about meals, due to the limited menu Dad has we haven’t really opened up the full meal train again and because of all the donations and gift cards, mom has had help in that area so we are thankful. If you still want to bring something when you visit just reach out to my mom and she can give you an idea of what Dad can eat!
We are witnessing such beautiful examples of encouragement, friendship, and community through all of this. We are deeply grateful for each and every one of you. Your prayers and love mean more than we can say. We are truly blessed by you all. Thank you. 🤍
