Nick's Recovery
Thursday night, Nick was asleep and his nurse was with him, so I decided to go to bed earlier than normal. I always tell the nurse to call me during the night if she needs me for anything! I took a bath and went to bed. Around 2:15 AM, my phone rang and it was the nurse! She said, "Nick isn't responding, can you come call 911!" I was half asleep, so I put my robe on and went downstairs. Nick was unconscious. All of his vitals were good and he was not on any oxygen. The nurse was doing the sternum rub and it was doing anything! I got in his face and talked to him. His eyes were cracked and when I spoke to him, I could see his eyes moving from side to side. He acted like he wanted to wake up, but he couldn't. I called 911 and within 8 minutes. The fire dept and EMS were at the house. I ran upstairs to get my clothes on and then I ran out of the door to get in the ambulance with him. We went to Cabarrus first. The EMS worled said he opened his eyes up 3 times on the way to the hospital. They drew blood, and did an xray and CT scan! Once he finally peed. He woke up, looking all confused. I did get him to smile. His Daddy told him that he had scared us again. Nick just looked at him! His left lower lobe of his lung was diminished. They thought he still had a touch of pneumonia. They gave him an antibiotic by IV and gave him some pedialyte! He had not had his 6AM, 8 AM, or 9 AM meds and it was close to 11 AM! They said they couldn't get then altogether since he takes so many before we were to be transported. Med Air came and got us and brought us to Charlotte.
He is now getting another therapy during RT and all of his treatments have gone from twice a day to 4 times a day! We got placed in a room in ICU. The reason was because there were no empty beds on 8th floor. By that evening, a room was available. It's our lucky room, #7!!!
Before he got moved, the nurse we had was trying to get him caught up on all of his meds from earlier. She wasn't able to give them all, but most of them! Before he got his meds, he was calm, happy, comfortable and sleeping off and on! Then as the evening went on after he started getting his meds, he started crying again like he was in pain. It got so bad that he got a dose of Buponorphine through IV! He slept ok, but he was back at the same thing this morning.
He has had issues all day! I spoke with the night doctor and told her something was going to have to be done. I have also requested a meeting with Anthony and myself and all of his doctors. It is time, beyond time to figure out what is going on. The night doctor will be having an extensive chat about everything in the morning. Please continue to pray that they find the problem soon. It is so unfair to him! I can't stand seeing him hurt like this!
