Morgan and Rachel
Yesterday around 9am, Morgan was successfully extubated! Morgan was then put in bipap on similar settings that his vent was on and did beautifully! The team got a little aggressive trying to further wean his bipap settings yesterday, but Morgan's lungs weren't quite ready for that so we went back to the settings he started bipap on. Morgan is also responding well to more weans of his sedative (the team has some meds to bridge the process, so he is no longer experiencing any withdrawal symptoms). He should be fully weaned from l in a few days. The PICU team also let me know that they expect he'll be able to move to a regular floor in about 3 days. Obviously I'm glad that he's healthy enough to need less intensive care, but am going to be sad to leave our amazing nurses and doctors in the PICU. I have been SOOO impressed by the level of care we have recieved this hospital stay and the teams knowledge, compassion, and teamwork. I'm sure our new team will be incredibly capable too, but we've definitely bonded with his current team that truly saved his life and walked us through some of our most difficult hours.
I also wanted to continue to express gratitude to all of you. I have no doubt that Morgan felt all of the love from around the world while fully sedated and intubated, and that all of the prayers and well wishes helped him pull through, and are a huge part of the reason he's making such a speedy recovery. Please keep them coming as he still has a ways to go. <3
