Imagine being ten years old and finding yourself offering advice to someone you love as they prepare for surgery. That’s where Merida is. After enduring more than twenty procedures in her young life, she’s been sharing the little things she’s learned with her MeeMaw, who is now facing a major surgery at 83. She’s told her about the small comforts that helped her—like asking for numbing cream before an IV—and reminded her to follow all the instructions and preparations carefully.

Merida has been cheering her MeeMaw on, encouraging her to recover quickly so she can come home. Even though she understands how serious the surgery is and feels afraid, she’s doing her best to stay brave in front of her. As the date approaches, she keeps offering love, reassurance, and strength, because she wants her MeeMaw to feel supported and to get better soon.

To lift her spirits, Merida talks about the things she’s looking forward to—springtime, being outdoors again, and walking as part of her own recovery. She tells her MeeMaw how much she hopes to use her Trexo and walk alongside her. MeeMaw smiled and said that would be lovely, and maybe they could walk together to the nearby pond to watch the geese and ducks. It’s a small dream they’re both holding onto, and it brings comfort to them both.
