5/4/24: Code Rainbow
the Linch Family
Newsflash: Mackenzie moved on from the PICU last night! This marked an important milestone in her recovery from her very serious medical setback. Her nurses and staff celebrated by ringing the hospital’s “Code Rainbow” chimes 3 times throughout the building to celebrate her as she left PICU Room 33. Some nurses shared that Room 33 is their “miracle room”. It was indeed for us. We would be remiss if we did not note that she arrived in PICU unexpectedly on the 3rd day of March and left on the 3rd day of May. 33 was her lucky number this time. Mackenzie thanked the staff on her way out and told the PICU Director that she wants to become a doctor someday when she grows up.
Mackenzie is now back on the AFLAC treatment floor where she was admitted for relapse in February. The new goal is to move to the inpatient rehab center soon, with some time-sensitive preparation for a special treatment in between, before coming home. Her lungs are still rehabilitating. There will be new challenges ahead, but we are incredibly grateful that she is making this transition away from intensive care.
We celebrate this win for Mackenzie with our family and with this community. We love you all. Thank you for your continued support.
