What a difference a year makes! This time last year, I was preparing for my mastectomy the next day and now I'm 3 weeks post-op from phase 1 of my natural breast reconstruction. When I was diagnosed, it was hard to imagine this day would ever come and while I still have a ways to go in my recovery and likely one more revision in the Fall, I'm so happy I had this surgery.

At this point, all of my drains have been removed, my incisions are continuing to heal, and the excruciating pain has mostly become manageable. Even though I get fatigued very quickly, I'm already walking close to 2 miles each day and my range of motion is slowly increasing with daily stretches. Otherwise, I'm tired of trying to sleep upright and the compression binder is super uncomfortable but all things considered, I mostly feel better than I thought I would right now and I'm grateful for that. "Well" as I feel, I still need to lay low for another few weeks before the rest of my restrictions are lifted, which is a whole other challenge in itself. Haha

Other than all that, I've resumed my hormone blockers and let's just say, I enjoyed my surgical "vacation" from them b/c forced menopause means the hot flashes, achy joints, and sleepless nights have returned with a vengeance. And yet, I'm still trying to be thankful I have one more tool to help me prevent recurrence b/c I never want to go through this shit ever again.

Emotionally speaking, there's been little room to process my cancer experience in real-time and I'm also nervous thinking about all that comes next (like my upcoming post-treatment MRI) so I appreciate your prayers for my continued remission and all-around healing.

Also, if you're able to, please consider joining our meal train. Brandon is working overtime to do everyyyything right now and the support really helps to take some of the daily cooking and cleaning off his plate. Thank you, thank you for everything!

Lots of love,
Lindsay Joy
