Out of the PICU

Lincoln got moved out of the PICU yesterday afternoon!  He's doing pretty well, all things considered.  He is making a lot of progress with his right leg, getting stronger every day.  PT talked about getting him to the rehab gym tomorrow to work on walking.  This is all very encouraging.
We are having ups and downs with the headaches.  Some days they seem better, but last night and today, the pain seems a little worse.  Hopefully this will continue to improve.  He still has the EVD, that drains the CSF from his brain, the goal is to start to raise it and decrease the amount its draining and then the CSF should start draining naturally.
Emotionally, Lincoln is having a hard time.  Lots of depression, being very negative and hard on himself.  We've reached out to psychology within the hospital and are hopeful to see them soon.  He's hanging in there though; it's so much for a 9 year old to go through.  We are grateful for all his progress so far.

Always remember that better is better. As long as he's even a smidge better each day, that's progress and wonderful news

I can't imagine going through any of this as an adult, let alone being 9. I hope as he recovers physically so will his depression. Love you guys! Keep going Lincoln!!!!!!!!

Sweet Lincoln. I can certainly relate to dealing with depression and being hard on myself. I will be praying for gentleness, peace, and joy for him.

Thank you for updating us Larkin. It seems you are utilizing all the support and tools to help Lincoln. Most 9 year boys do not have patience for anything difficult( many adults too!). Lincoln is coping as best he can now. Hopefully the PT, OT and MH can help him focus on the small goals and remind him how far he has come. Hugs, Prayers and Blessings to you all🙏❤️

It’s heartbreaking when our kids are sad about things that are beyond our control and we can’t fix. Please tell him we are all thinking of him. ❤️

I'm sending hugs to you all, but especially for Lincoln. I remember how tough he was on himself last year. I know his tenacity and drive will be an asset in this journey. Much love to all the Hocevar family.

Thanks for keeping us posted through all you’re dealing with 🤍 I saw Hudson during this week’s Book Fair and it made me smile 😊 What an opportunity to show our kids the value of coming together and supporting each other through all aspects of life 🙌🏽 You’re an inspiration 👏🏽
