Hello all,

First off, I want to say thank you all SO MUCH for the support you have given Leon. Last week was really stressful and heartbreaking, but the amount of support I've received from my friends and you all took a heavy weight off my shoulders. It is heartbreaking to have to put a price on your animal's life and/or wellbeing. Throughout the week, I was in contact with a veterinarian that initially saw Leon. She was able to put me in contact with a local veterinarian who could perform a femoral head ostectomy (FHO) on Leon, and at a discounted price! In the end, the total for his surgery was over $2,300, which is about half of what other veterinarians were estimating.
On Friday, Leon got his FHO surgery, and it appeared to be successful. Unfortunately, the X-ray after his surgery revealed that the fracture of his pelvis has gotten worse, and his hip bones are a bit misaligned now. It is still possible for his pelvis to heal without any other surgery, but he has to be under strict crate rest in order to restrict how much stress he puts it under as he tries to use his new hip. We have ordered a crate for Leon to rest in for the next 8 weeks, as recommended by the vet. We are scheduled to have another X-ray to analyze his pelvis in a month, so hopefully he heals up well. In the meantime, we are using a big cardboard box. I will post another update once his long term living situation has been set up, but I wanted to post an update to show that your support helped us get Leon his FHO surgery and he is on his way to recovery! Thank you!
