Leah Catlin's Burn Support
The variable moods of Leah describe our days and nights the best. She wants held. She wants down. She’s happy. She’s sad. She’s giggly. She’s mad face grunting. She wants her bed. She wants our bed… Maybe that sounds like typical 2 year old behavior, but this is magnified. Most of the time she lays being held and prefers you not moving or talking to her. We know this too shall pass, but in the now it’s pretty exhausting requiring so much patience.
Yesterday a text went out describing our nights and how our bed just was feeling a bit claustrophobic. I mean, we are thankful we aren’t sleeping on tiny couches and hospital chairs anymore, but Leah’s sleep needs and Josiah teething and ear infections mean there’s lots happening at night. By bedtime last night a brand new king mattress had arrived😲 This is just one example of community showing up for us. WE ARE SO THANKFUL! We’ve been told this burn journey is a marathon and we still can’t think much past today without getting overwhelmed, but we feel so loved by family, friends, and complete strangers who are touched by Leah’s journey! Thank you for being present in our pain.
We’ve gotten some “what comes next questions”. And honestly we only know up till Wednesday. We will return to the Riley Burn Clinic for a 2 hour dressing appointment. At that point, everything will be looked over post surgery for healing and evaluated and we will be given the next plan. Obviously they will be looking for any infections, will be watching her right arm and hand grafting particularly closely, and she will have physical and occupational therapy and stretching done.
Photos: Leah loves all things strawberries. The Strawberry Jammie photo shows some creativity cause Leah gets what Leah wants. When she really wants to wear her strawberry jammies that have long sleeves that don’t fit over her dressings, you get creative and chop the sleeves off 😊
Ways to Pray:
- Leah occasionally has a break through fever. Please pray the antibiotics do their job and keep infection away.
- Pray for pain relief and comfort for her right arm. She doesn’t want to take her brace off which isn’t bad but she also isn’t wanting to use it at all during breaks.
- Continued prayers for rest and patience. Running on fumes is a pretty accurate description.
- Pray for baby brother’s ear infections
