Leah Catlin's Burn Support
Home. There’s something sacred about a space that ours. Yesterday as we started packing Leah’s hospital room, she started to freak out. But as soon as we explained we were taking her home she got super calm as long as she knew she got to take all her special things with her. She’s rather attached to her poster, balloons, new stuffies and toys.
You could tell her demeanor softened as soon as we arrived. She’s still in pain. But she’s in her space. She’s not up much more. She still wants mommy and daddy to hold her. Her tolerance is still very low. We did get her outside to swing and even heard a few giggles. We constantly remind ourselves that she is two days post surgery and in constant pain. I don’t know about you but when I have minor burns from the oven or styling device, I feel so much pain so trying to put ourselves in Leah’s shoes is just so unimaginable.
She slept for a few hours in her bed at the beginning of the night. Then she requires mommy and daddy’s presence. Josiah was up a lot, it seems he really enjoyed sleeping in the bathroom at the hospital and seems to need to transition back home. Rest was in short demand.
Being home feels like an experiment. Her outer dressings from the harvest sites are all in diaper areas and down her thighs, so she pooped this morning all over the dressings and it was all hands on deck to figure out how to replace coban and ace bandages without really knowing what we were doing. (All the underneath dressing next to the wounds were still clean-we ran out of dressings that the hospital sent us with already so some have been added to the Amazon list if interested).
All in all, still so thankful to be home so she can rest and heal. She is eating more now that she has all her normal favorites.
Ways to pray:

Ways to pray:
- Pain management. We are trying to space out the heavy hitter since we have limited doses but also just two days post surgery and need her to stay comfortable.
- Rest & Patience- just keep saying it over and over. They go hand in hand and both are in short supply. Mom and Dad did get a short nap in while Leah rested when we got home.
- Little moments of normalcy- they are just uplifting and also in short supply.
Thank you just doesn’t begin to describe the way we feel for the amount of support we have received and feel. Thank you for surrounding us in prayers and such tangible ways. We are so humbled and thankful.
