Should We Build a Safe Outdoor Space for Leah?

As we prepare for Leah's upcoming surgery and the possibility of her finally returning home in the near future, I wanted to share an opportunity that has been placed on many hearts. Please know that this is not a request from Joy and Drake, but rather a response to the many people who have lovingly asked, "What else can we do to help?"

Many of you have faithfully followed Leah's journey, prayed for her recovery, and stood beside the Catlin family through the tragic accident that changed their lives forever. As Leah continues the long road of healing, a new need has become increasingly apparent.

The Catlin family recently became homeowners in Cicero and had already envisioned building a deck off their back sliding door, which currently leads to a small set of unstable steps. What was once a future home improvement project for safety and convenience has now taken on a much deeper meaning.

Leah has always loved being outdoors. She enjoys watching the birds in the backyard, feeling the fresh air, and simply experiencing the beauty of nature. As many of you know, Leah has extremely sensitive skin, and following her injuries, protecting and caring for her skin will be even more important. As she recovers, having a safe, clean, and accessible outdoor space where she can enjoy those simple pleasures without being directly on the ground could make a meaningful difference in her quality of life.

We envision a deck that would provide Leah with a secure place to sit, play, heal, and enjoy the changing seasons alongside her family. More than just a structure attached to a home, it could become a place of comfort, restoration, and cherished family memories during a season when those moments are needed most.

Long before Leah's accident, Drake and Joy had begun saving and planning for this project. Now, as the family focuses all of their attention and resources on Leah's recovery, we are exploring the possibility of organizing a volunteer build team to help complete the project in a timely manner. We are also seeking financial contributions to help cover the cost of materials.

Again, this is not a request initiated by Drake and Joy. Rather, it is an opportunity for friends, family, and members of the community to come alongside them in a practical and meaningful way. We believe that creating a safe and welcoming outdoor space can provide not only physical accessibility, but also emotional healing, peace of mind, and a place where hope and new memories can continue to grow.

Whether you are able to volunteer your time, contribute financially, or simply share this message with others, every act of kindness is deeply appreciated. As we prayerfully consider moving forward with this project, your support and encouragement mean more than words can express.

We also want to be respectful of those who have already given so generously toward Leah's medical needs. Please be assured that it is not our intention to redirect or use funds donated specifically for Leah's care toward this project. Those gifts remain dedicated to helping meet the ongoing medical needs and expenses associated with her recovery.
