The minds eye is a tricky thing. As we process Leah’s accident we each have little snippets that we remember. Some saw it. Some heard the screams. Some received the horrendous phone calls with short limited information. It’s hard to process it all. It’s going to take time. But please continue to pray for healing of our minds. (And yes. We know good therapy is going to be needed)
Leah had a really rough post dressing change yesterday. And a really rough night. The night nurse did not appropriately keep up with Leah’s meds so she was a mess this morning. They tried different anxiety meds for the dressing change this morning and things went sooooooo much smoother. Leah’s cousin, Michael, came for a brief visit this morning and it was so good for Leah. However once again her afternoon and evening her little body gave out and she struggled.
Surgery Day is tomorrow currently at 1pm. They are least concerned about her fingers and most concerned about the palm on her right hand. The plan is to take skin from Leah’s butt and outer thigh and the front of her thighs and graft them on her wound beds. Her right palm and fingers will receive a skin grafting spray. They will use Leah’s cells to create the spray with the hopes that it will continue the healing process without contractures. Obviously this will create more wounds for Leah. IF all goes as planned there is potential talk that Leah could go home Friday because her dressing will not need to be changed for a week as they will be using silver on her dressings.
Ways to Pray:
That the surgeons need less of Leah’s skin for grafting than anticipated.
Smooth hands, good rest for all Leah’s care team specifically surgeons.
Miraculous healing of her right palm! And of course all wounds!
That discharge happens as soon as appropriate. Little girlie wants out of this room.
Good sleep tonight in preparation for surgery.
Patience and rest for Mommy and Daddy. Toddlers without burns are hard. Toddlers with burns are even harder :)
