Leah Catlin's Burn Support
If we’re honest, yesterday was a day of breaking. The grief was tangible and anger started to rear its ugly head. Our sweet little Leah has been a fighter since she entered the world a little early and she’s just been our perfect little princess. She’s spunky. She’s feisty. She’s as sweet as can be. Her smile and bubbliness bring so much joy.
Her feet have always been so tender from her NICU stay. If you haven’t experience the NICU they rely on baby feet for so many daily pokes and prods so she’s always had some sensory issues. And here we are where there aren’t many places for them to stick her due to the burns but her left foot. Her poor foot has been through at least 6 IV sites and multiple blood draws. So her one remaining limb is now covered in black and blue bruises. From yesterday’s surgery she now has additional wounds and you look at our sweet girl and wonder what’s left?
There was a possibility that they would need to harvest skin from her scalp yesterday which would have meant shaving her head. It was too devastating to speak so we kept that detail close and prayed desperately that her scalp would be spared. And thankfully it was. We know that she is still our sweet perfect little princess but her little body is now covered in battle wounds and we find ourselves just fighting the WHY!!! She’s not the wild child. She’s not the accident prone child. There’s just no logic behind this. So we cry. And we cry. And we cry.
Leah had a Meh night as expected. They thought she was going to need oxygen as her stats were a bit unstable. But she got it together and made it without IV meds overnight. The PA was not super comfortable with us going home from a medicine management perspective. They cannot send her home with very many doses of the stronger meds. Ultimately we decided to break her out of here. She really despises the care team and taking vitals is a thrashing experience every time. It was decided that she will be less stressed at home.

Ways to Pray:
- Pain management. Please pray that we can keep her comfortable at home. The next week is going to be ROUGH.
- Emotions- please pray for extra doses of patience.
- Miraculous healing of ALL wounds.
- great rest for Leah
- Eating. Little peanut is not wanting to eat. We’ve got to get more fuel in her body for healing. We think being home and having some of her normal foods will be helpful.
