Kelly Shirley
Hi All,
Kelly unfortunately had a little set back soon after my last update.
Shortly after Mother's Day, Kelly started to feel more short of breath which prompted her to reach out to her Pulmonologist. It was recommended that Kelly go in for a CT scan as well as a bronchosophy. During the bronchosophy they determined that Kelly had contracted a virus (metapneumovirus) that led to her right lung to being blocked with large amounts of mucus. They were hopeful that after the bronchosophy that her lung capacity would return. Unfortunately that was not the case and led us to bringing Kelly to the ER this past Saturday morning where she was admitted to the ICU with pneumonia and a collapsed right lung. She has since been moved out of the ICU and into a step down room for continued monitoring. Her biggest challenge since being admitted has been maintaining her oxygen levels and overcoming the extreme shortness of breath. As of this morning, they decided to do another bronchosophy where they were able to remove more mucus and wash out any additional infection that might have been lingering. So far things seem to be trending in the right direction with maintaining her oxygen levels and has stated that she feels better with her breathing. We're hopeful that her recovery will continue to progress and that her lung capacity will return.
Please pray for her quick recovery and hopeful discharge so that she can return home.
Chad
