I wanted to share an update with everyone who has supported Keegan and our family over the past several months.
When we first started fundraising, the plan was for Keegan to attend an intensive at All Kids Are Perfect. We never imagined how much would change over the following months. Between multiple hospitalizations for respiratory illnesses, his femur fracture in April, and learning about his low bone density, it became clear that the therapies we'd planned for were no longer the safest option for him.
That was a really difficult realization. I'm not much of a crier, but I definitely cried for a few days. We had put so much hope into that plan, and letting it go was heartbreaking. But keeping Keegan safe has always been the priority.
The good news is that we were able to pivot. On August 17, we'll be heading to NAPA in Charlotte for a three-week intensive that includes physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. Their approach is much gentler for children with fragile bones while still providing the individualized, intensive care we're hoping will help Keegan continue making progress.
If there's one thing this journey has taught us, it's that very little goes according to plan. Every time we think we know what the next step looks like, something changes. I'll admit I've been a little hesitant to share updates because it has felt like every time we get everything lined up, life throws us another curveball. But this time, I finally feel like I can say... we're ready. Therapy is paid in full because of your incredible generosity, our Airbnb is booked, and the countdown has officially begun.
Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared our fundraiser, checked in on us, or simply followed along with Keegan's journey. Your support didn't just help us get to one specific therapy programβit gave us the flexibility to adapt when everything changed. That has meant more to our family than we can ever express.
We're excited (and maybe just a little nervous!) for this next chapter and can't wait to share updates from Charlotte. Here's to three weeks of hard work, new experiences, and celebrating every bit of progress, no matter how big or small. Thank you for continuing to be part of Keegan's community! π
