Hello everyone!
Each day things change a lot! So, of course we have some changes!
Today the orthopedic and oncology team decided that the prep for GI and Colonoscopy would be too harsh on my moms body at this time with the amount of pain she has been in and the fracture in her Femur.
Instead, they decided to do a CT on her Kidneys to check for any masses. The Kidneys are most important to clear before surgery because if they are affected by the cancer there is a high risk of bleeding during surgery. Her kidney CT came back clear which is amazing news and what they need to feel comfortable enough to do surgery.
She will have surgery tomorrow morning on her femur where they will place a rod in the entire length of her femur and they will also place 5 pins to stabilize.
This surgery will relieve a lot of her pain and create enough stability for her to be able to stand and hopefully walk. It will also stabilize her entire leg so there isn’t a risk of her femur breaking more.
In a few days when she is more stable, in way less pain and no longer has a risk of fracturing her femur it is likely that they will still do the GI scope and colonoscopy to explore an origin further. This will help them figure out where the cancer came from. It is likely that they run these tests later this week. This is a much safer option and we are all happy with the current game plan.
We ask for prayers and well wishes tonight as my mom goes into surgery early tomorrow morning. This is a big step in getting her out of her pain and making it safe for her to go home and begin treatment!
