Hello all!
The biopsy results indicated the cancer is Adenocarcinoma, which means it comes from glandular tissue, but does not confirm which glandular tissue. As of this morning, the plan is to perform an endoscopy and potentially a colonoscopy, tomorrow (Monday 8/10). If the endoscopy doesn’t yield any results, then the colonoscopy can be preformed immediately after.
Finding the origin is crucial for the surgery on her femur, because some types of cancer bleed more and the surgical team needs to plan accordingly.
And the surgery on her femur is the first major step in her recovery. They will insert a rod, to stabilize the bone, which will allow her to put weight on her left leg and regain mobility. Katie has been on bed rest for the past week, because she is at high risk for fractures. She also has a tumor on her opposing right shoulder, which makes any movement very painful and physically difficult.
We are really hoping that we can figure out the origin of the cancer, as all plans seem to be pending on this information.
