Sticking with NASA-related motif thanks to Joel — Katie has officially launched in treatment. She got a PICC line Tuesday and started the chemo portion of therapy Wednesday.

Joel said the trial team is excited to work with her, and in true to Katie form, she elected to do an optional biopsy to one of the sites post-treatment with the thought that it will help the study and other people. The team was really appreciative.

Today, Katie said she’s feeling the effects of the chemo (tired and “kind of ick”). She’ll have a break over the weekend, then will get admitted to the hospital Sunday with cell infusion Monday. Understandably, she’s feeling nervous, hopeful and of course, missing everyone.

She and her mom are now in a nice apartment provided for first-responders in treatment. They’re thankful for your gifts and have used some already for Walmart delivery, DoorDash, and rides. “Very grateful, too, as new medical bills roll in. ❤️”

One thing for us loved ones to know when she’s back home: Because of the lympho depleting drug, Katie will have to be on anti-viral meds and antibiotics for a year. We’ll want to mindful to keep her safe if we’re feeling under the weather ourselves.

Stay tuned next week!
